You may have heard that Facebook wants you to make the move to business manager by June 1, 2015. But should your company be using Facebook’s Business Manager?
If you have any of the following, the answer is yes:
1. multiple ad accounts
2. more than three Pages
3. multiple people or an agency managing your Facebook presence
Business Manager is Facebook’s solution to the privacy risks posed by sharing login information for a single business account. The new system was rolled out more than six months ago and Facebook is getting serious about migrating all of the legacy shared accounts to it. If your business has been using one of these “gray” accounts, you may want to make the leap to Business Manager sooner rather than later.
Some Assembly Required
Setting up Business Manager for your business can be done in three steps. Start by going to Facebook’s Business Manager hub, scrolling to the bottom of the page, and clicking “Get Started”.
Sign in to your personal Facebook account, if you have not already. This can be either an account you use outside of work, or one meant for managing your business. The information is only used to verify that a single person is using the account and will never be revealed to any other users involved with Business Manager.
Answer some questions about your business concerning the number of pages and users involved, as well as how your business uses Facebook. Business Manager requires a primary Page for your business. This can be any form of Page, such as a main office location, a community, or a brand Page. If your business already has a page like this (usually the one with the most customer interaction), you may create a duplicate or temporary page and then delete it later.
The final step is creating a profile for yourself which will be displayed inside Business Manager to other users working with you. This requires your name and business email address. Adding a business email ensures all business-related notifications are sent there instead of to your personal email address.
Access Business Manager from your Facebook homepage by clicking on the arrow in the top right corner and selecting Manage Business:
Managing Pages With Business Manager
The Business Manager homepage will display and provide easy access to all of the pages you have added. Add new Pages to the Manager through the Settings tab and Pages section. Options available include requesting access to a Page from its owner, claiming a Page you have already created but is not yet in the Manager, and creating a brand new Page.
Gray accounts are being deactivated on June 1, 2015, so if your business uses one you will need to migrate soon. All you need is the account information for the shared login and you will be able to claim any Page owned by the old account for your new Business Manager.
Finally, you should invite any other people who manage the pages and assign necessary roles to them.
Business Manager Admins can manage all aspects of the business settings, including modifying or deleting the account and adding or removing people. Employees can see all of the information in the business settings but can't make any changes.
Five roles exist for each Page claimed by the Manager:
Page Admin - manage Page roles, send messages and post as the Page, create ads, and view insights
Page Editor - edit the Page, send messages and post as the Page, create ads, and view insights
Page Moderator - respond to and delete comments on the Page, send messages as the Page, create ads, and view insights
Page Advertiser - create ads for the Page and view insights
Page Analyst - view insights
Taking the Plunge
Business Manager is a great solution for businesses wishing to organize the growing number of interactions with Facebook. BizTraffic just recently made the jump from a shared account to Business Manager and the transition was quick and clean. The ability to manage accounts, Pages, ads, apps and permissions all from a single platform is well worth the short amount of time it took to migrate the system.
