Man Using Instagram UpdateBeing one of the top social platforms, Instagram is most popular for it’s easy photo and video sharing. The race between top social network is a tough competition, though. And this tough competition calls for big changes sometimes.

Well, this is one of them! Instagram was already a great place to view photos from all over the world, but the newest Instagram update makes it even easier to know all about what’s going on.

What’s New?

Instagram made two major changes on it’s newest update that both make it easier to see what’s going on in anywhere.

Explore Page

The Explore page has changed a lot over the course of Instagram’s life. It has evolved from the Popular page which only displayed the most liked photos on the app to the now more personal Explore page which adjusts to a user’s interests based on their likes and followings. 

But now they’ve stepped it up once again.

Instagram has turned their Explore page into something similar to the trending page on Twitter (see image below). The new design now surfaces trends as they emerge in real-time, allowing users to connect to current events and conversations all over the world.

They have now made the top trending tags and the top trending places visual right at the top of the Explore page. So you can experience global events, holidays, and the top trends from every perspective. Now you aren’t only seeing what people are talking about, but you get to see what they’re doing and seeing too!

Advanced Search

The other big change with the latest update is the improved ability to search. When Instagram first came about, the search was only used to look up people. Then after a while, they made a separate search option just for hashtags.

But now when users go to search, they will find that they can now search by “Places” and “Top” (along with the original “People” and “Tags”). The “Places” search allows users to search by location to see photos at a specific place. Now you can search places all over the world and find things like where you plan on eating tonight, a festival you wanted to go to, or even your next vacation spot.

The “Top” search allows users to search across people, places, and tags all at once.

What Does This Mean for Businesses?

This update can really benefit your business in a couple of ways. If you go to an event for your business, you can post it to Instagram from your company’s account. This will increase your follower rate and boost your popularity in your industry, because these posts will now be easier to search and view (without having to advertise).

Another way this affects the business world is by giving local businesses a chance to use the new “Places” search. You could potentially use it to monitor what is being said about your location, as well as asking customers to post pictures and comments to your location tag. This promotes your business in a positive light and prospects can see what’s in store.

These update is only out in the United States for now until Instagram fine tunes the update to make it available for the rest of the world. Now you can see the biggest events as they’re happening and see them through the eyes of those experiencing it. If this isn’t a huge leap, I don’t know what is!
