Are you having trouble with competitors running up your Cost Per Click or just wish people would call you instead of going to your website to try to find the answer themselves?

Well you are in luck, Google AdWords launched it’s new click to call campaigns last month! But before you go and dispose of your campaigns and start re-configuring all of your settings, you should know you don’t have as much control over the settings of these campaigns.

The main benefit of these ads are they change the meaning of CPC from cost per click to cost per call. Every click on your ad will now result in a call, which is valuable to a variety of verticals such as lawyers, towing companies, doctor’s offices, rental car companies, and many others.

Also, as we have seen in the past, sometimes our client’s competitors will click on our client’s ads over and over again until their budget is exhausted and we have to submit an invalid click report. This helps put a stop to that, since now when the competitor clicks on the ad it calls the business number.

How it Works

Now don’t get overzealous Google fans, you still need a website to run these campaigns and the ads are only available on the search network. There is good news though: you don’t need a highly optimized site to run these campaigns because the searcher will never see your site. Also these ads are very mobile friendly and fairly easy to set-up.

All you have to do is create a click to call campaign, copy and paste your optimized keywords from the campaign you want to use, set the old campaign to -100% mobile bids, and create a new ad (Don’t copy and paste your ads from editor, IT WON’T WORK). The new ad will ask for your phone number and verification URL (To make sure the number provided is on the site) and you are off to the races.

Just like with any new feature, there are a lot of positives to these campaigns and a few negatives. It never hurts to try new features that Google launches, because you never know what value they can offer to your overall business.
