Art of creating a compelling call-to-action

The compelling Call-To-Action or CTA is key to just about anything you do online.

Whether your designing the front page of your website, writing a blog post, sending an email, or setting up the new feature on your Facebook business page, CTA's are necessary to your strategy. Therefore it is detrimental that you master the art of clearly defined CTA's that resonate with your audience.

And not only that, but that it is compelling and drives results.

1. Clearly Define the Action

What is the ideal step a visitor to your website can take? If someone was willing to take whatever action you wanted them to take to further their relationship with your company, what would that look like?

Every company's response is going to be different. For some it might be best for a potential client to pick up the phone and call, for another it might be best for them to buy the item right there on the website, for another it might be ideal for them to download a trial of a product.

Whatever your company wants from a potential client, find a way to clearly state what it is you want them to do. Without a clearly defined desired action, there can be no powerful CTA.

2. Design with Appeal

Creating the actual visual for it to be a really compelling call-to-action is probably worth hiring an expert designer for. The CTA needs to stand out from the website, yet be visualy appealing at the same time. It is the designers job to create a balance of powerful pop and appeal, simultaneously.

3. Create Fun Copy

No one is going to take the action you want if the action sounds boring. It is your job to make downloading that ebook or signing up for that email list sound fun, exciting, and important. So convey that with the right kind of copy that really speaks to your company's personality.

4. Place It Prominently

Whether your placing a CTA in a blog post, or on your home page don't allow your CTA to get lost in predictable placement. Make sure it stands out from the rest of the website by being directly in the line of sight of a user, and standing out with fun and unique colors.

Your call-to-action should be powerful and prominent in order to clearly guide your visitors through the desired action you have. Harness the full potential of your CTA by following these 4 simple steps and create not only a beautiful CTA, but an effective one.
